LESLIE COLBORN, 1916 - 2009

I hope you will all forgive the brevity of this post but few words are needed.  On Saturday morning my father died, nine days short of his 93rd Birthday.  I am grateful for his long, happy and successful life but that does not ease the pain of his parting.  He was a keen and capable gardener who taught me a great deal.

The picture is of Scilla greilhuberi, currently blooming in my garden.  Its flowers are almost exactly the colour of my father's eyes.

  1. I didn't know your Father but I believe that a man who taught his son to love gardening was a great person.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your father. Nothing eases the pain, I know; you just miss them so bloody much. But it does get slowly better, and happy memories help. It sounds as if you have plenty of those.
    With love and sympathy, Victoria

  6. Good grief ~ I have come across your blog for the first time at a most terrible period in your life. There are no words, nothing that can be said helps when you lose a loved one... x

  8. I was blog hopping and found yours. I am so sorry for your loss, my mother died 2 years ago aged 90 and I still miss her. It does get easier with time and you have all those happy memories. He also left you a legacy with your love of gardening.
    Best Wishes
    Maureen
